thoughts from Scott’s desk
It’s a time for Americans to eat cheese filled corn tortillas, drink beer, and pretend that Cinco de Mayo is important to the Mexican culture.
It’s a time to treat Mom to a special day to thank her for putting up with us for the rest of the year. Thanks Mom!
It’s the start of Ramadan which actually IS a significant holiday, but will receive little or no recognition in the U.S. media, because it lacks the capitalistic merchandising that we associate with holidays. Suck on that Hallmark!
May is also American Bike Month which means that a lot of people will be dragging their cycle out of the garage or basement, taking one or two rides, feeling the butt pain the next day, and calling it a season.
The month of May was named for the Greek goddess Maia, a.k.a. Bona Dea, the Roman era goddess of fertility whose festival was held in May. So, even way back in the days of the Roman empire, this month was all about chasing tail.
For some of us, May has unfortunately (but truthfully) been monikered Asthma & Allergy Awareness Month. So, let the sneezing, sniffling, and wheezing commence.
May might mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Hopefully it’s a time for celebration, getting outdoors and enjoying the fresh air. There may be a rainy, wet a miserable day along the way … May that day never come.
